New Fiberglass Fly Rod Blanks

After testing a few prototypes of this newly tapered fiberglass, finally a new blank color was chosen.

This 6'6" 3 piece 3wt fiberglass blank is slightly faster than those conventional fiberglass blanks that I have used previously, thus this will provide a better controllability to the caster.

When they asked me about this blank I used to build that rod....

"How much stress can it take?"

I really can't tell..

But ... a picture tells a thousand words..

"YELLOW" 6'6" 3wt 2pc Fiberglass Fly Rod

I left that "YELLOW" fiberglass untouched since April this year and I guess it time to finished it off.

I got a couple of old fly reel seats from a local tackle shop when I was browsing around the shop. I was kinda surprised they have these here.

 Lathed the cork grip and installed the reel seat.

  I choose the same color thread for wrapping the guides.

Did a couple of round of the "olive branch" wrap, a new skill that I newly acquired. I have yet to make it perfect and seamless. Think I still needs more practice.

At a glance it really looked like the yellow eagle claw fly rod...

Ultralight 3 weight SPIN FLY rod

Mr.Q bought a ready made 2/3wt fiberglass from me and he requested that I built another fly rod with a Tennessee grip on the same blank.

 The blanks

The fly rod was pretty standard but the Tennessee grip is interesting. I used 2 graphite sliding ring for the grip.

The completed rod looks like that...


And I could not believe my eyes when he tagged me on his photos showing me his catches on this rod..

This one was still okay....

Well... these are slightly bigger...

BUT these knock me off my chair!!

I hope he really had fun with the UL rod.

Just lathed another grip for another 6'6" 3wt translucent white blank

Glued the cork rings yesterday and it is ready for turning today.. Just done this in the afternoon.
Guess I will be busy wrapping up the guides for the rods soon...

Lathing more cork grip..

Since I was lathing the cork grip yesterday, I felt like doing another today. Call that addictive or what....!!!!
I have this reel seat ready for my white translucent blank and I wanted to lath the cork grip in advance.
So I did another one.

I tried  fitting the reel seat and cork grip to the blank. It looks pretty neat. I have plans to use black colored guides for this blank. What say you?

More of fiberglass fly rod blank..

Wrapped the first three lite wire snake guide with Pearsall's Gossamer Jasper thread last week. I am still waiting for the balance of #2 and 3 snake guides from Mudhole.
