Another "Olive Green" fiberglass fly rod...

Here is another 3wt "Olive Green" fiberglass fly rod that I managed to built during the long break last week.

This blank profile is almost similar but the total length is 7' instead of 6'6".

Setting up the handle , marking the guide spacing and locating the spine.

Wrapping with Olive green thread with a single silver trim. This aluminum reel seat is a triangular reel seat with a center tubing.

And finally, I manage to find a pen to write on the blank. 
Don't have to worry about smearing the blank with metallic ink .

Light bamboo casting rod

Some of you might have remembered this off set cork handle which I made way back in December last year.

Anyway, I have finally started it .. slow and easy. It took awhile for the trigger reel seat to come as it was out of stock for a few months.

Now, that is the reel seat I was talking about. It looks something like the Megabass Pagani rod except for that wood insert.

After taking the measurement of the top locking nut, the fore grip was shaped and fitted in for a test.

And it was time to do the final shaping of the rear grip..

At the end , it looked something like that.

I finished it off with a rubberized cork for the butt end and a couple layer of U40 cork seal.

That is all for the time being. I still have to get some guides for this rod..



Just lathed another grip for another 6'6" 3wt translucent white blank

Glued the cork rings yesterday and it is ready for turning today.. Just done this in the afternoon.
Guess I will be busy wrapping up the guides for the rods soon...

Another grip and reel seat done

I haven't got the chance to finish the epoxy work to the white translucent rod yet, but I managed to find a little time to fix up the grip and reel seat to the other translucent yellow blank.

My new stock of stabilized burl wood reel seat just arrived and I have a rattan grip which I have done some months ago. I tested it... and it looks just nice.

Lathing more cork grip..

Since I was lathing the cork grip yesterday, I felt like doing another today. Call that addictive or what....!!!!
I have this reel seat ready for my white translucent blank and I wanted to lath the cork grip in advance.
So I did another one.

I tried  fitting the reel seat and cork grip to the blank. It looks pretty neat. I have plans to use black colored guides for this blank. What say you?

Lathing reel seat and cork grip for the "node less" boo

Last weekend, I managed to finish the reel seat and grip. Got a cheap stainless steel rings for the sliding band.


Not bad, considering it is dirt cheap.. but looks kinda neat.

Lathed the grip and then fitted in..



I have decided not cap the end of the butt. I just applied 2 coats of clear epoxy to seal the ends.


Next for the guides....

Finishing touch

I thought the hardest part was the construction of the bamboo blank... but little does I know, I am still cracking my head over what and how to wrap it up...

So many choice... but only 1 set of blank.


Perhaps a Struble D2 downlocking reel seat ..... simple.

Or something unique .. cork insert with sliding band. Stainless steel rings or bamboo rings?

What sort of wrapping thread color to match the hardwares... ?
Earthy color or striking color......?

Well, let's just see how things goes..............
