Completing my 9 months old project - PacBay 6' 6-10lb

Half way done and tucked in 1 corner of the room, left unnoticed until spring cleaning. I guess it was time to have it completed and fish. Just found out that I don't have any light weight tackle and with this I hope I have all the range needed..

Trying to use up the balance of the abalone veneer left over from my previous rod project. It would be sufficient to cover the split butt section and the intermediate section between the skeleton reel seat.

The abalone overlay to the rod blank are done before any other components are fixed. A few layers of epoxy coating was applied onto the veneer.

Setting up of the handle.

The whole handle length..

All done and ready for my next fishing trip...

MHX 6'6" 2-6lb KR Concept UL Spinning

I have built a few UL rods recently and most of it are in 1 section. This time a 2 piece UL rod. Building a 1 piece rod is no difference from a 2 piece rod, just have to make sure the spine is aligned to each other.

Found some loose pieces of Pacbay skeleton spinning reel seat laying around in my rod parts drawer and I decided to use it. The locking hood and threaded barrel are from Fuji. Carbon tube insert was used for the mix and match skeleton reel seat.

After getting this fix, then I realised it looked like the reel seat used for Daiwa Aird. Just that they did not use carbon tube insert.

The completed handle.

Fuji KR guide system with size #4.5 guides at the top.
Black thread wrapping to the guide with 1 coating of epoxy.

Now the fun part. Metallic marbling effect was done to the 2nd coating of epoxy.
Have to do it really thin as I want to minimise the weight added to the rod especially the tip area.

Marbling effect also applies the the wrapping at the winding checks.

JSI St Croix 3S66MLF

This is the 1st rod done in my new 'cave'. I have been busy arranging all my stuffs in my new workshop until at times I can't find the things I am looking for...

This order was placed as early as in February 2012 and I tried to do it up within 2 months but unfortunately I failed, partly due to the shifting but mostly of me looking for perfection. I damaged the rod decal trying to making good the evenness of the epoxy. I had to wait for the decal replacement from St Croix.

This friend of mine fancy the minima reel seat from PacBay. Very nice and light for those who are into skeleton reel seat and wants their rod to be light.

Aluminum deco ring as a transition between the trigger reel seat and EVA rear grip.

After shaping the rear grip and fighting butt.

Test fitting the reel seat and EVA grip.

Original Fuji SiC guides for the rod.

Simple black wrapping with metaliic silver trims to match the aluminum deco ring.

10+1 guide placement

Silver trimmings above EVA rear grip and fighting butt at exposed blank of split butt.

This was the 1st rod decal I damaged during the expoxy process and it costed me 2 weeks of waiting period.

This is the replacement rod decal from St Croix.

And there... it is all done.
